Game Birds Hunting

Game birds such as francolin, guinea fowl, wild duck, wild geese, quail and sand grouse (all other birds except for a few which have been declared pests, are protected) may be shot during the hunting season for birds, provided the above stipulations have been met. Game birds are usually hunted during August and September.

Hunting Laws

Namibia has strict game laws. Nobody may kill or capture an animal unless legally permitted to do so. Namibia is a member of CITES and trophy animals may be legally hunted on a quota basis. Gig game hunting concessions allow the registered hunting safari operator to hunt a fixed number of animals. These quotas are based on scientific research. The season for huntable game on farms is restricted to the hunting season (usually in June and July). Written permission must first be obtained from the farmer who owns the game on his property and whose prerogative it is to decide which game may be hunted and what it will cost the prospective hunter before a hunting permit will be granted. The term huntable game strictly excludes protected or specially protected species.
